In the World, Bhutan stands as the only carbon-negative country, which means they produce more carbon dioxide ( CO2) than they consume. The main reason behind becoming carbon negative is Bhutan has approx. 72% forest in their country.

Bhutan land of happiness but Sometimes people also need money to gain happiness. But Bhutan people don’t care about high income. They have a constant GDP rate than other developing nations. Bhutan concentrates on sustainable Hydro-power instead of polluting coal, natural gas-based power generation. For the last few years, Bhutan allows India to invest in its Hydro-power electricity projects. They also export 70% of their hydro power electricity to India. This help Bhutan to boost their economy along with GDP. Now Bhutan impose high travel tax per person 1200 rupee (approx. $15.90) on India, Maldives and Bangladeshi tourist. This fee imposed to discourage the high number of travelers from these countries. This extended fee used to save the ecosystem.

Bhutan is trying to protect its natural ecosystem. So, govt. of Bhutan made forest cover constitution which is at least 60% of the area must cover with trees and protect from deforestation. That’s how Bhutanese Govt. strictly protecting their forest, animals, and environment. They preserve 50 % of the country’s forests with numerous Parks. they also confirm eco travel in Bhutan. Animals like Royal Bengal Tiger, Rhino, and snow leopard are still safe there from extinction. If anyone caught hunting wild animals, get ten years of prison or 1 million fine or both punishment.

Only Carbon negative country in the world

With a population of 771,608 (2020) every year, Bhutan creates 1.5 million tonnes of carbon but consumes 6 million tonnes. Using renewable energy, Protecting nature strictly make them only “zero carbon” or “carbon negative” country in the world. Govt. of Bhutan always trying to keep the environment clean, so they banned tobacco since 2005 and plastic bags since 1999. These steps make it one of the greenest countries in the world.

Bhutanese govt. Always choose nature over the business. They working with World Wildlife Fund to preserve nature.
